ABOUT THE PROCEDURE
The nose occupies a central place in the facial area. Its shape and size are determining factors in how we perceive our own appearance and personality. Our surgical approach is in line with the patient`s natural facial proportions, based on which we strive to sculpt the nose, giving harmony to the facial contour and a natural-looking result.
The nose is supported by the nasal skeleton, which is made of bone and cartilage. The upper third of the nose is formed by a bone skeleton and the lower two thirds, forming the nostrils, are made of flexible cartilage of the same type as we have in the ear. There is another layer of cartilage, covered with mucosa, separating the two airways and extending backwards from the nostrils. It is called the septum.

Frequently Asked Questions
There are many techniques for performing rhinoplasty. During your online consultation, your plastic surgeon will explain in detail which one can be used to achieve the desired result. However, below we have listed the main types of procedures and techniques.
Open rhinoplasty
A small incision is made in the columella (the skin of the central support of the nose separating the two nostrils). The incision continues on the inside of the nostrils. The surgeon then has direct visual control over the nasal cartilage and bone, the individual components of which will be adjusted to give the desired shape, size and projection of the nose.
Closed rhinoplasty
In closed rhinoplasty the incision is not made in the columella between the nostrils, but is made through the mucosa on the inside of the nose. The surgeon then has access to the nasal cartilage, the individual components of which will be adjusted to give the desired shape, size and projection of the nose. Closed rhinoplasty lacks visual control, relying on the surgeon`s tactile sense. The intervention is recommended for corrections that require modeling of a separate part of the nose or a complete remodeling. For a secondary rhinoplasty, an open access is preferred.
Septorhinoplasty
Septorhinoplasty is usually performed in patients who have a deviated nasal septum or the so-called “septal deviation”. This nasal septum represents the thin wall of cartilage and bone inside the nose which separates the right from the left nasal cavity (the nostrils).
Your surgeon will make a cut in the mucosa (the skin-like lining inside the nose) and will “lift” it off the bone and cartilage. The septum will be then adjusted and put back in a straight position.
Nose tip rhinoplasty
The surgery of the nasal tip is performed to change the shape, projection, size and angle of the nose with the upper lip. The aim of the correction is giving the desired shape (often the so-called “diamond shape”) of the tip of the nose, as well as resizing of the nostrils, removing the existing sagging of the tip of the nose (drooping nose), reducing the width of the barrier between nostrils, etc. Most changes are made through internal access in order to minimize scarring. Your surgeon can create the perfect tip for your nose structure.
Your surgeon will give you detailed information for the preoperative preparation a few weeks prior to your plastic surgery.
The most important advice for smokers is to stop smoking for at least 2 weeks (or 4 weeks and even more, if possible). Smoking prevents healing and increases the risk of complications. You should not smoke until the wounds heal well, at least two weeks after surgery.
You should stop taking aspirin or medicine containing aspirin, antiflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they all increase the risk of bleeding. Your surgeon will advise you how long prior to the operation you should stop taking these medicines.
High blood pressure also needs to be well controlled during surgery. So if your blood pressure is elevated, you should discuss it with your surgeon.
It is extremely important to discuss your expectations with your plastic surgeon. This will allow him to assess whether they are achievable with the selected procedure. In some cases, two or three sessions may be needed to achieve the desired effect, and in others – it may be necessary to combine procedures for a better result.
You will be accompanied by an employee of ours to the clinic and where you are staying before and after the operation.
Speaking about recovery after a nose job, there are two aspects to be considered: How long does it take to resume completely normal activities and how long does it take for the nose to reach its final shape? There is a huge time difference between them. There is also an individual variation.
The operation itself is practically painless. It is performed under general anesthesia. Minimal bleeding from the nostrils is possible in the first 24-48 hours. Therefore, you will have a bandage placed under your nose.
Bruising and swelling around the eyes are something normal after such a procedure. They usually go away completely in about 10 days. If the intervention also involves the bone skeleton, the patient will have to wear a nasal splint or plaster which will be removed after 7 to 10 days. Reaching final shape will take 6 to 12 months. You have to be patient.
You must not do physical exercises for a few weeks but you can do most of the other daily activities.
Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular procedures at our clinic and all the risks associated with it are the same as with any other surgical procedure that involves general anesthesia. All specific risks will be discussed with your surgeon, who will explain in detail the process of nasal surgery and answer your specific questions. Some possible risks may include:
-
Infection
-
Poor healing of wounds or scars
-
Change in the sensation of the skin; possible tingling or pain
-
Perforation of the nasal septum
-
Difficulty breathing
-
Unsatisfactory appearance of the nose
-
Skin discoloration and swelling
The best way to avoid the risks of surgery is to follow the correct post-operative instructions given to you by your surgeon. Many of these risks are rare.
