Composite bonding is an advanced dental procedure that offers a natural and aesthetically pleasing solution to various dental imperfections. From minor chips to significant discolouration, composite bonding provides a versatile approach to achieving a perfect smile. This article delves into the details of how composite bonding works, its benefits, and how it can resolve common dental issues.
How Does Composite Bonding Work?
Composite bonding is a modern dental technique that uses a resin matching the color of your teeth, ensuring a natural appearance. The resin bonds with your teeth to give them the desired shape or color. A curing light is used to speed up the bonding process, and the procedure concludes with a final polish to ensure everything looks perfect and your bite is correct.
Benefits of Composite Bonding
Composite bonding offers several advantages:
Non-Invasive: The procedure doesn’t harm your natural teeth, and the resin is strong and durable;
Color Options: You can choose a resin whiter than your natural teeth to achieve your perfect smile;
Teeth Strengthening: It’s not just a cosmetic solution; it can also strengthen damaged or weakened teeth without causing further damage.
Problems Solved by Composite Bonding
Composite bonding is a versatile dental procedure that can address a variety of cosmetic and functional issues with your teeth. Here are some common problems that can be solved with bonding:
Chipped or Cracked Teeth
Composite bonding can effectively repair minor chips or cracks in your teeth. The resin material is moulded to the damaged area, restoring the tooth’s shape and appearance.
Discoloured Teeth
If you have teeth that are stained or discoloured, composite bonding can help. The resin can be matched to the natural color of your teeth or used to whiten specific teeth, giving you a more uniform and attractive smile.
Gaps Between Teeth
For those who have gaps between their teeth (diastema), bonding is an excellent solution. The resin is applied to the sides of the teeth, closing the gaps and creating a more even smile.
Misshapen Teeth
Composite bonding can be used to reshape teeth that are irregular or misshapen. By applying and sculpting the resin, your dentist can create a more aesthetically pleasing tooth shape.
Short Teeth
If some of your teeth are shorter than others, bonding can help lengthen them to create a more balanced appearance. The resin is applied to the edges of the teeth to extend their length.
Worn Down Teeth
Teeth that have been worn down due to grinding (bruxism) or other factors can be restored using composite bonding. The resin material can rebuild the worn areas, improving both function and appearance.
Uneven Edges
Teeth with uneven or rough edges can be smoothed out and reshaped using bonding. This creates a more uniform and harmonious smile line.
Small Cavities or Tooth Decay
Composite bonding is also used to fill small cavities and repair tooth decay. The resin material blends in with the natural tooth, providing a seamless restoration.
Old, Unsightly Fillings
If you have old fillings that are discoloured or don’t match the color of your natural teeth, they can be replaced with composite bonding. This improves the overall aesthetics of your smile.
Sensitive Teeth
Bonding can cover areas of the tooth that have worn away enamel, reducing sensitivity to hot and cold foods and beverages.
Whitening Composite Bonding
Composite bonding cannot be whitened using traditional whitening methods. The bleaching agent, hydrogen peroxide, only affects natural teeth. Consider whitening your natural teeth before or focus on whitening the bottom teeth if you’re only getting bonding on the upper teeth.
Composite Bonding vs. Veneers: What’s the Difference?
Veneers: Custom-made ceramic shells that adhere to the front surfaces of your teeth, requiring enamel removal. Veneers are not reversible and need replacing every 10 to 20 years;
Composite Bonding: May not require significant enamel removal, making it reversible. Bonding typically needs touch-ups every three to ten years.
While veneers are long-lasting and offer exceptional aesthetics, they are more expensive and require more time to place. Bonding on the other hand is more affordable and can be completed in just one visit.
How is the procedure performed?
Before Bonding: The procedure begins with a consultation during witch you will discuss your cosmetic goals. if you don’t have you will need to take X-rays, and examine your teeth and gums. After the patient needs are determined a treatment plan is created;
During Bonding: The dentist selects a shade, prepares your tooth, applies the resin, cures it with a special light, and polishes the tooth. The procedure takes about 30 to 60 minutes per tooth;
After Bonding: Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing twice a day with a soft toothbrush and flossing daily. Avoid habits that could chip the bonding material.
How much is teeth bonding?
One of the main advantages of composite bonding is its affordability. The price varies depending on the complexity of the procedure and the number of teeth to be treated.
We provide online consultations with our doctors, who will review your case and present you with various treatment options and detailed pricing.
The price of composite bonding per teeth in Bulgaria is two to tree times cheaper than in England.

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush;
Use dental floss or tape daily;
Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth;
Avoid chewing gum, pencils, nails, and ice;
Steer clear of sugar-heavy snacks, meals, and acidic foods.
Recovery and Longevity
Recovery: No downtime is required. You can resume normal activities immediately;
Longevity: Bonding material lasts between five to ten years, depending on your oral habits and how many teeth were treated. To keep the results as long as possible it is important to maintain good oral hygiene using quality toothpaste, mouthwash and dental floss.
When to See Your Dentist
