About the procedure

With the help of the back liposuction procedure significant improvement and results are achieved among women. Back fat deposits can be divided into several important areas:

  • Infra-scapular back (fat accumulation under the shoulder blades). They are located above the waist and below the shoulder blades and are often regarded as unaesthetic formations located just below the bra
  • The posterior auxiliary (armpit) fat pad is located in the upper outside part near the armpit
  • Back fat tissue of the waist is located above and behind the pelvis
  • Lumbo-sacral fat amounts  are located in the middle of the coccyx
  • “Buffalo hump” formed by fat accumulation, which is located in the back and under the neck

Frequently Asked Questions

Infra-scapular fat accumulation (Infra-scapular back)

The infrascapular area is the back area located just below the bra. Fat tissue in this area consists of a single subcutaneous layer without a well-defined compartment of deeper fat tissue. This area protrudes clearly when a woman wears a narrower bra. In some women, there is a hereditary tendency to accumulate such fat tissue. As obesity progresses, fat accumulation in the infra-scapular area can become so large, that parallel “rolls” of fat tissue can form and be accumulated in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Liposuction with the application of microcannulas can remove the unpleasant fat tissue under the bra and result in great aesthetic improvement.

Infra-scapular back fat tissue is fibrous. Fat deposits consist of fat cells and fibrous connective tissue which holds fat cells. Fat accumulation in this area contains more fibrous tissue than fat tissue in any area of the body. Fat tissue with more fibrous structure in the subcutaneous areas makes liposuction more challenging. Penetration into this dense fibrous tissue network is difficult using large cannulas. With the help of microcannulas, these areas can be treated successfully. The higher the fibrous tissue amount is, the greater the resistance to the penetration of the cannulas is. The initial application of microcannulas, subsequently followed by the application of larger microcannulas, enables a deeper liposuction. Applying microcannulas with an  inner 1.2 mm – 2.2 mm diameter  makes the penetration into this special kind of fat much easier and this enables the achievement of better cosmetic results.

How does previous major weight loss affect results?

While losing weight, fat cells shrink but fibrous tissue remains. Thus, after a large weight loss, the remaining compartment of fat amount contains significantly more fibers. When treating a patient with “rolls” of fat on the back, liposuction procedure is relatively easily performed, if the patient is close to his/her maximum weight.

However, regarding patients who have lost a relatively large percentage of their initial weight, liposuction in the same area is much more difficult to be conducted. For obese people who do not have an extremely thick back, liposuction may deliver relatively good results. If the patient gains significant weight after back liposuction procedure, the benefits of it may be lost.

Hyperpigmentation at the incision area

The skin on the back is particularly susceptible to liposuction-induced hyperpigmentation around the incision mark. Therefore, the total number of the incisions on the back should be held as small as possible. Any injury to the skin near the incision may result in a dark scar called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Microcannulas are much better than larger cannulas in avoidance of unnecessary skin injuries near incisions on the back. Also, hyperpigmentation of the incisions is more common when they are executed on the back than on more lateral parts of the body. Therefore, when surgeons conduct a liposuction procedure on the back, they try to make the incisions on the most outlying lateral area possible.

The risks of excessive liposuction

When there is no deep compartment of fat accumulation on the back,  but however, a relatively thick layer of dermal fat tissue is present, some surgeons tend to perform excessive liposuction, which ultimately traumatizes the skin. As a consequence of excessive liposuction, which injures the subcutaneous part of the skin, permanent discoloration of the skin  known as erythema ab lipo respiration occurs. Skin injuries caused by an aggressive liposuction can also lead to and aggravate skin necrosis (the skin dies), usually resulting in an unpleasant scar.

How do we work

Once you have made contact with us, we will organize a free video consultation with the surgeon we believe is best suited for your particular situation.

This consultation will be within 5 days of your request. Prior to the video consultation, we will ask you to fill out a questionnaire about your medical history and send photos of the problematic areas.

If necessary during the video consultation your doctor will advise you to take additional photos of the problematic areas and suggestions for the angle from which to take photos.

This consultation will be combined with a detailed discussion about your wishes and the possibilities for achieving them.  We will discuss with you the expected results, possible risks and any other issues that you might be concerned about.

We advise you to make a list of all the questions you may want to ask concerning the procedure before the actual consultation. After the official request to us, and if you wish, we can arrange a meeting for you with our representative in London.

Within 24 hours of the video consultation, we will send you a costing describing the price of the procedure and the needed length of stay in Bulgaria. In the costing there will also be preferential prices offered for our partner hotels with which we work and for which we can guarantee the quality and comfort.

You will then have 3-4 days of time to reflect, and give us your decision.

The remaining balance has to be paid by the day before the procedure itself after conducting the preliminary examination in the clinic.

If you decide or need to cancel the procedure, this must be done at least 30 days before the date of your flight in order to be able to trigger a process for returning your deposit.

If you decide to cancel our services within the last 30 days before your flight, you must have a good reason for doing so (supported by evidence) in order to take your money back. If you cancel it within these 30 days and the reason is acceptable, your money will be returned, but you will be suspended 50 euro for an administrative fee. Our employee will take you to the clinic and after that to the place where you are to be accommodated.

Before the surgery, you will need to sign an informed consent document (i.e. a document certifying that you have been informed by the doctor about all potential risks and complications and that you understand them) and agree to proceed with the procedure).
